Teitel Bros, Arthur Ave, The Bronx
Teitel Bros is another one of the places I shop at in the Bronx. Specialties here are fresh nuts and some of the best dried apricots and dried figs I have ever eaten. There’s also a great selection of olives, and this is my source for feta and parmesan cheese and sun-dried tomatoes. Another thing I can’t leave/live without is an herbed Italian sea-salt from Bologna. Sea salt with garlic, black pepper, rosemary, and sage - it adds a layer of depth and complexity to just about everything it touches, whether you use it as a finishing salt or in cooking. Like Tino’s I’ve been shopping here for more than a decade and always take the time to spend a few moments talking to Gil Teitel, the current owner. Especially during busy holidays when there’s a long line I tip the servers who help me. It more than pays off in special attention and samples.
